After much research, I have found a solution to my earlier quandry and would like to share it with the forum. There is a company called CRIS Camera that sells an adapter called the MR-9 which takes "Silver-76" batteries and converts their voltage to the 1.3 volts that is needed for many older Super-8 camera's light meters. They are about $30 each and can be ordered directly from them at criscam.com. My email was posted incorrectly earlier and should have read [email protected]. If you have an alternate solution, namely cheaper, for replacing mercury batteries, please contact me as I am still looking for alternate solutions. Thanks to Hanthx for their response to my earlier post.

wein cell makes zinc-oxide batteries to replace those ol' mercury pills. the wein cell replacements are the only line of exact voltage, non-mercury replacements for the px625/px13, px675 and rm400r. and, they're more stable than alkaline. better yet, they'll only cost you ~$6 and they're available at most any camera store.

If you need a 1.3V or the realy hard to find 2.7V mercury battery replacement, I have tried using two hearing-aid batteries taped together. This supplies the correct voltage, however they drain rather quickly. A better solution, which works great on my super 8mm GAF (2.7V), is to use two rechargable AA batteries. I start with the batteries drained, and only charge them to 1.35 volts each. Use a voltmeter to monitor thier progress.
1.35 + 1.35 = 2.7 volts. You can get an AA battery holder with wires from Radio Shack and tape it to your camera.
